چکیده

The problem of non-invasive spatial localization in NMR is approached by constructing a spatially selective composite pulse sequence and incorporating it into a recently developed difference scheme. The composite sequence described, which requires nine phase-shifted n pulses, functions only over a narrow range of radio-frequency (rf) field strengths while remaining effective over a broad range of resonance frequencies. Relying upon the field gradient of a surface coil to label regions in space by local rf amplitudes, the pulse inverts all nuclear spins at a selected distance from the coil across a broad range of chemical shifts. This approach will allow the observation of chemically shifted NMR signals from specific regions of a material or organism. Computer simulations are presented, and the method is demonstrated experimentally on a phantom sample using a surface coil.

Band-selective hetero- and homonuclear cross-polarization using trains of shaped pulses.

The performance of solution cross-polarization using trains of shaped pulses on two channels is investigated by computer simulation and experiment. It is determined that a Waltz modulation pattern of Gaussian pulses of individual flip angles of 225°, issued to two coupled spins simulatneously, yields excellent coherence transfer with good phasing behavior. Simulations and experimental verificat...

Selective and Non-selective Nmr Excitation of Quadrupolar Nuclei in the Solid State

Spectral intensities of quadrupolar nuclei and the radiofrequency (rf) pulse lengths for selective and non-selective excitation of any single-quantum NMR transition in the solid state are calculated. When nuclei of the same element occupy sites which experience different electric field gradients, the spectra are quantitatively reliable only when the length of the rf pulse is much smaller than n...

Functional magnetic resonance imaging using non-Fourier, spatially selective radiofrequency encoding.

A new method for functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) employing non-Fourier encoding using spatially selective radiofrequency (RF) excitation is presented. The method uses manipulation of spatially selective RF pulses to encode spins in the slice-select direction. The method has several advantages over standard multislice approaches. It provides a simple means for monitoring irregularly...

Simultaneous spatial and spectral selectivity by spatiotemporal encoding.

PURPOSE To introduce a method that provides simultaneous spatial and spectral selectivity, whose implementation is less demanding than-and quality comparable to-conventional 2D spectral-spatial counterparts. THEORY Spatiotemporal encoding concepts lead to a spatially selective, chemical-shift-dependent echo, with simultaneous dephasing of all other off-resonant species. The approach only requ...

Pencil beam excitation using a 2D spatially selective adiabatic T2-prep for imaging the left coronary arterial system

Background 2D spatially selective radiofrequency (RF) pulses can be used to constrain the location from which an MR signal is obtained. This may lead to more time-efficient data collection by reducing the field of view (FoV) or may improve image quality by suppressing artefacts from outside the area of interest. Meanwhile, T2-Preparation, or T2-Prep, is a magnetization preparation scheme used t...
